American Places and People (Maps, Portraits, Photographs, and Drawings)

Panoramic Photograph Collection (most 1880s-1920s).  Reprints from over 1,000 panoramic photos of US city skylines, scenes, and groups of people.  They vary significantly in both image depth and image quality.  High resolution PDF's are available for most photos in this collection, so that you can review the photo in detail prior to purchasing a reprint.
Panoramic City Map Collection (1847-1921).  Reprints from over 1,000 hand drawn, highly detailed, panoramic maps of cities from the Library of Congress.  Some have vibrant color, many are black and white, but nearly all have remarkable detail that you really have to see to believe.  You can view high resolution PDF's of most of these maps online.

You can search this collection by State.  These maps are available in multiple widths.

Civil War Map Collection (most 1860s-1890s).  Collection contains nearly 1,700 maps from the digital collections of the Library of Congress.  Some are just from the era of the Civil War, while most are battlefield maps made during or soon after the end of the war. We currently list only those maps that are in the public domain.  You can search this collection by keywords in the title or description.
Civil War Photograph Collection (most 1860s).  Collection contains over 7,000 photographs from the era of the American Civil War.  This collection contains many portraits of generals, a lot of battlefield views (some carnage), photos of troops, etc.

We are in the process of providing a more useful index to this collection.  For now, the collection is searchable by keywords in the title or description.

Brady-Handy Photograph Collection (most 1860-1910).  Collection contains about 5,000 photographs--mostly of government or military leaders--from the Library of Congress Brady-Handy Collection.  Brady and Handy were professional photographers with studios in Washington D.C.  Photos are searchable by the last name of the subject.
Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information Color Photographs (most 1940s, WWII).  This collection includes over 1,600 color photographs depicting the impact of the late part of the Great Depression through World War II.  Many photos show rural life, migrant labor, and economic conditions.  Other photos show the rapid industrialization and training for the war effort.

Photos are searchable by keywords and state.

Graphic Arts Collections

Popular Graphic Arts Collection (PGA) (most 1800s).  Collection of over 7,100 images from the Library of Congress PGA Collection.  Includes prints (about 1/3 of which are Currier & Ives).  The prints in this collection span from cheap political broadsides to carefully colored landscape paintings.
Photochrom Prints Collection (1890-1905).  This is a large collection of nearly 6,000 photochrom prints from the digital collections of the Library of Congress.  Subjects are almost exclusively cities, scenes, and landscapes of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.  Countries or regions include: Algeria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Norway, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Syria, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, and more.  You can search by subject, keywords, or country.  You can also view high resolution PDF's of all of these images online.
WPA Poster Collection (most 1936-1943).  About 1,000 silkscreen, lithograph, or woodcut posters from the Works Progress Administration.  Posters promote public health and safety, as well as a wide variety of arts and cultural events.
Performing Arts Poster Collection (most 1880s-1920s).  This collection consists of about 800 posters advertising magical, minstrel, or theatrical performances.   

 

We sell high resolution reproductions or reprints of antique maps, manuscripts, photos, artworks, etc.  Except in rare cases that are explicitly indicated, we do not stock nor sell the actual historic artifacts or documents.
